In a restrained run-chase at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) comfortably defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) in the chase of 160 runs in Match 44 of the Indian Premier League 2026 on Saturday, May 02.
After being invited to bat, MI posted a competitive score of 159/7 on the board, but a calm and calculated batting effort from CSK ensured that they reached the line with ease and won by 8 wickets. Mumbai's innings had its moments, but they struggled to build a sustained partnership. Taking over the innings after the initial setbacks, Naman Dheer played a stormy innings of 57 runs in 37 balls. Ryan Rickelton put up some fight, scoring a quickfire 37, while Suryakumar Yadav made a quick cameo. However, regular wickets hampered his progress.
For CSK, the bowling unit put in a disciplined performance, with Anshul Kamboj leading the way with three wickets. Noor Ahmed took two wickets, while contributions from Jamie Overton and Ramakrishna Ghosh ensured MI never broke free.
In reply, Super Kings made a steady start despite losing Sanju Samson (9 off 11) early. From there, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad chased down the target with an unbeaten 67. He received solid support from Karthik Sharma, who played a crucial role with an unbeaten 54 as the duo stitched a match-winning partnership.
CSK eventually chased down the target in 18.1 overs, displaying control and maturity in their approach.
