The young fast bowler could not repeat his previous success in 2025 as he returned from injury, taking 13 wickets at an economy of 10.13 in 12 matches. Despite a disappointing year, his overall IPL numbers of 47 wickets in 32 matches at an economy of 8.68 make him a valuable addition.
Known for his slinging action, bounce and ability to bowl fast in the death overs, Pathirana's breakout 2023 season made him an expert in pressure situations. With franchises constantly searching for reliable bowling options, his skill set makes him a premium pick.

3. Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants, who will enter the IPL 2026 mini-auction with Rs 22.95 crore, are looking to strengthen their weak pace attack, and Mathisha Pathirana is one of their top overseas targets. LSG had to deal with a number of injuries to their Indian fast bowlers last season and despite the inclusion of Mohammed Shami and Arjun Tendulkar, the team still lacks a specialist overseas fast bowler.
With the release of Will O'Rourke and Shamar Joseph, the franchise is now looking at Pathirana as the ideal solution. Pathirana would be a perfect complement to Shami. His inclusion will bring to LSG the bowling balance that was missing during the last campaign.
