The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to take strict action against unauthorized personnel traveling with the players in the team bus. 2026 indian premier league (IPL).
The 2026 IPL has seen several off-field controversies, including Riyan Parag being seen vaping in the dressing room and Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder being seen using a mobile phone in the team dugout.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has now claimed that the governing body will take strict measures to maintain the decorum of the tournament, including preventing unauthorized people from traveling with the franchises in the team bus and entering the hotels where the players are staying. According to several reports, many players were seen traveling with their significant others.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said via The Indian Express, “Certain irregularities have been observed in the conduct of some franchises and players. We have observed unauthorized persons traveling with players, including visiting team buses and team hotels.”
Saikia also mentioned that the BCCI has observed team owners and other officials coming in contact with players in unauthorized areas of the cricket ground. This is against the BCCI directive that was sent to the teams before the start of the IPL, which had clearly restricted the entry of players and people close to the players within the match official area (PMOA).
He said, “We have also seen that some team owners and officials are meeting with players in areas where it is not allowed. So there are some protocols that we have to follow, and we have seen that there have been some relaxations in it. We have taken it very seriously. We are issuing an advisory, and it will be followed very strictly. If there is any violation after this, the BCCI and IPL will take very strict action.”
The IPL is currently entering its business end, with several teams still having a chance to qualify for the playoffs. It was recently announced that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the showpiece final on Sunday, May 31.
