Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has argued why Chennai Super Kings cannot chase cameron green In the IPL 2026 auction. The five-time champions have a purse of Rs 43.4 crore available and a maximum of four overseas slots left to be filled.
Chopra pointed out that CSK has never been a franchise that has spent a lot of money on any player. He said that this is why CSK cannot chase Green aggressively
“Chennai very rarely buys someone for Rs 25-30 crore. That's not their style. They may go for Cameron Green for a while, and then say they don't need him, or sometimes, you strategically keep increasing someone's price, but if you don't get him you don't mind at all. CSK may not show that much interest in Green,” Chopra shared in a video on his YouTube channel.
The renowned commentator said that CSK's relatively inexperienced middle-order could be a reason for them to go after a domestic or foreign batsman who fits the bill.
However, they will have to show interest in the middle-order batsman. It looks like the top six are OK, but not all of them are OK. I seem to be a little less experienced. If you have the option of foreign players, play them.”
Green, who has set his base price at Rs 2 crore, is expected to be an attractive asset in the auction to be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16. It is expected that many franchises will go after this top Australian all-rounder.
lyrics of Chennai Super KingsThey have released Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, Vansh Bedi, C Andre Siddharth, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Sheikh Rashid, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Mathisha Pathirana and Ravichandran Ashwin (ahead of the auction). They also traded Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to Rajasthan Royals for Sanju Samson.
The 2025 season was a season to forget for CSK. The men in yellow finished bottom of the points table for the first time in their history. They will be aiming to refine their squad in the auction and will be keen to perform better in IPL 2026.
