In the bid to ensure the highest quality of pitches and plains for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rolled out new rules by limiting the number of practice sessions for teams. According to the latest instructions, each franchise will be allowed only seven practice sessions before their first match, with more than two warm-up games or center wicket practice sessions. In the previous season, there was no restriction in this way.
The BCCI has taken this step to preserve the surfaces of playing at places, to prevent excessive wear and tear before the tournament starts. This decision was made after understanding that earlier instructions had stopped the IPL places from hosting local games, legends leagues, or celebrity matches under the leadership of the tournament.
According to the BCCI note for the franchise, teams can conduct seven practice sessions of every three hours under floodlights. Of these, two sessions may be practice matches or open nets, provided they are on one of the side wickets of the main class. Additionally, the period of any practice match under the light should not exceed three and a half hours and require pre -written approval from the BCCI.
BCCI conflict comes with solution mechanism
In addition, to help the preparation of the pitch, no team will be allowed to practice on the main class for four days to their first home match. However, during this period, a side-can be provided per team to practice range hitting. The revised rules assist heavy loads at places due to domestic matches running till IPL season.
With these new sanctions, conflict can arise when both teams want to practice at the same time. To address this, BCCI has come up with a conflict solution mechanism, allowing team managers to interact on a system. If no compromise is made, the board will step into a two -hour slot and assign each team, ensuring that the two sides get a fair practice status with exclusive ground access.
The teams will have a dedicated area for range of range, with a wicket on the peak edges on both sides of the main class. These areas can be used for batting practice, bowling and other exercises. In addition, open nets will not be allowed, and safety measures will be strictly taken, only the access to players, assistant employees and net bowlers will be banned.
