East Royal Challengers Bangalore RCB recently won the IPL 2025 title, ending the 17 -year -long wait for his first trophy.
Mallya first recalled the draft for appearing in the auction and under -19 players, of which Kohli was then part. This is where Mallya decided to bring the Delhi boy into the squad. “I was the one who had chosen Virat Kohli. I was sitting there for a pick, and the minutes I immediately chose Virat. Obviously, his performance with India's Under -19 team was an impressive factor. Therefore, he was a natural option to be an RCB captain,” Mala said that Krikabuz quoted.
RCB has been a part of the franchise since the installation of Kohli IPL In 2008, he continues to represent the team. The Indian legend has scored more than 8,600 runs in the tournament, making him the most run-scorer in IPL history. He has so far recorded eight centuries and 63 half -centuries in the league. Despite leading RCB as a captain for many years and reaching the final with the team thrice, he was unable to secure the title for years.
However, in IPL 2025, Kohli played an important role as a full -time inauguration batsman, under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar. He scored 657 runs in 15 matches, including a significant 43 -run knock in the final. With no other batsman making an important contribution, Kohli's innings proved significant as RCB scored six runs to Punjab Kings (PBK) to win his first IPL title on Tuesday, June 3.
