'I don't want to show that I want to play'

Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar He has broken his silence on being consistently dropped from India's T20I setup despite delivering excellent performances in the recently concluded IPL 2026. His impressive bowling performances had led to widespread calls for a national comeback ahead of the white-ball series against Ireland and England. However, the selectors decided to retain the young group, leaving the experienced fast bowler out of the squad once again.

Bhuvneshwar, who last represented India in late 2022, took a calm and pragmatic approach to the failure. Rather than dwell on the misses, the 37-year-old stressed that his focus remains firmly on the aspects of his control, his performances and consistency on the field.

Addressing the selection debate, Bhuvneshwar reiterated that he prefers to keep his performances in the news rather than publicly campaign for a comeback into the national team. He acknowledged that the selection of the team is the responsibility of the selectors and said that the role of the player is to perform to the best of his ability when given the opportunity.

“It's my nature not to show that I want to play. I think everyone is doing their job. The selectors are doing their job. I am doing my job. It is their responsibility to select. If they feel I am good enough, they will do their job,” Bhuvneshwar told The Indian Express.

Leading the bowling attack of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Bhuvneshwar played a key role in leading the franchise to consecutive historic IPL titles. The experienced fast bowler played a vital role throughout the campaign, striking regularly in the powerplay, maintaining control during the middle overs and bowling accurate yorkers in the death overs.

In 16 matches, Bhuvneshwar took an impressive 28 wickets at an economy rate of 7.95 and a remarkable average of 17.89, constantly troubling the opposition batsmen with his experience and skill. His best performance of the season came against Mumbai Indians, where he bowled a match-winning spell of 4/23.
