'How can this be a serious cricket team?'

Former India fast bowler Dodda Ganesh criticized Delhi Capitals (DC) management for being persistent Pathum Nissanka Instead of trying domestic batsmen in the team. He shared this opinion after Mukesh Chaudhary dismissed the Sri Lankan opener for 19 runs in 15 balls in the Capitals' match against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, May 5.

Ganesh said that there is a lot of Indian batting talent waiting in the Delhi Capitals setup. He mentioned that players like Prithvi Shaw, Nitish Rana, or Abhishek Porel could open the batting with KL Rahul and David Miller could return to the team and play in the middle order. The 52-year-old sarcastically called the DC think tank “geniuses.”

Ganesh wrote on his official 'X' (previously Twitter) handle, “There is a lot of Indian batting talent available in the Delhi camp. They can easily open with KL along with Shaw/Rana/Porel and keep Miller in the middle order. Instead, the geniuses feed Nissanka at the top and remove Miller. Tell me, how can this be a serious cricket team.”

Nissanka has played nine matches for the Capitals so far. He has scored 228 runs at an average of 25.33 and strike rate of 156.17. On the other hand, Nitish Rana, batting at number 3, has scored 217 runs in eight innings at an average of 27.13 and a strike rate of 156.12. Porel has played only one game, where he came in as an impact player against Royal Challengers Bangalore after the Capitals lost a lot of wickets with a lot of overs remaining. Talking about Shaw, the former India Under-19 captain has not played any match in IPL 2026 yet.
