Shubman Gill He was expected to play a key role in Gujarat Titans (GT)'s clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31. He came into the field on the back of a brilliant century in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals. However, he could not repeat his heroics in the summit clash.
Rajat Patidar won the toss and decided to bowl first, but in the third over, Shubman was out to Josh Hazlewood after scoring just 10 runs in eight balls. The 26-year-old played a half-hearted shot which went straight over the bowler's head and Patidar ran to his right and took a good catch.
Harbhajan Singh said that when RCB sent Shubman on early in the match, they had won half the game. The former Indian spinner believes that if Shubman had played a little longer, the opposition bowlers would have come under a lot of pressure.
“It was a huge wicket. The best thing for RCB in this game was that his dismissal meant half the game was in their kitty. He was the main batsman who was scoring runs consistently, and he could hit any bowler. He had single-handedly won the match for his team in the last innings,” he replied when asked about the significance of Shubman's wicket on JioHotstar.
Harbhajan said that Shubman seemed to be in too much hurry while playing the big shot, after which the injury of Titans got worse with the dismissal of Sai Sudarshan in the next over.
“He might have thought he might have delayed that shot. While batting first, sometimes you have in your mind how many runs are needed, and the team against them is RCB, who have a lot of batting. I think he was in a bit of a hurry. It was a big moment for RCB, but today it was the worst moment for GT, and then losing Sai Sudarshan in the first six overs,” Harbhajan said.
