Chris Srikkanth lauds Shubman Gill for the way he uses Gujarat Titans captain jason holder In the game against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, April 26. The former India opener said that while Ruturaj Gaiwad, Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dubey were struggling to get used to the slick surface, Gill did well to dismiss Holder.
Srikanth said interestingly that Holder has never bowled so economically in his career. The former West Indies captain gave only 22 runs in his four over spell. Chennai Super Kings were restricted to a low score of 158/7 after being invited to bat first.
“When Gaikwad, Brevis and Dubey were struggling, Gill did a smart job by sneaking into Holder's four overs. Holder had probably never bowled such an economical spell in his lifetime,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
However, Srikkanth said that Gill did not use the spinners well. The cricketer turned specialist said that Manav Suthar should have bowled along with Rashid Khan.
Srikkanth said, “They overused Arshad Khan. Manav Suthar is brilliant, but GT is ruining him. They should use him in the middle overs and in conjunction with Rashid Khan. Rashid bowled hardly while Arshad Khan kept bowling.”
Sai Sudarshan, who scored 87 runs in 46 balls, received a lot of praise from Srikkanth. With his excellent innings, Gujarat achieved the target of 159 runs in just 16.4 overs with eight wickets remaining.
He said, “He plays to his strengths. He knows his limitations. He starts playing aggressively by guiding the balls to the third man area. But suddenly he explodes and makes up for it. In the first 30 runs, it always looks like he is struggling. But he somehow survives that phase and makes it brilliantly. Once he gets his look in, he starts dominating.”
Ruturaj could have done what Sai Sudarshan did in this match: Srikkanth
Ruturaj Gaikwad has had a disappointing performance with the bat. On Sunday, he scored his first half-century of the season. However, his unbeaten inning of 74 runs off 60 balls did not prove to be of much use for the Men in Yellow. Srikkanth said that Gaikwad could have played like Sudarshan, as it would have helped Chennai reach competitive scores.
Srikkanth said, “Although Ruturaj could have performed like Mini Tilak Verma. Had he done so, CSK would have probably got 180 to 190 runs instead of 158. Ruturaj could have done what Sai Sudarshan did in this match.”
