In a shocking incident after the IPL 2026 final between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the team bus Shubman GillOn Sunday, May 31, a fire broke out on the way to their team hotel after the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A major accident was averted as all the players and support staff sitting in the bus including the driver were taken out safely.
The fire, though not major, broke out following a short circuit in the bus due to an electrical fault in the main unit. The smoke spread inside the bus and also entered inside where all the players were sitting. However, they remained unharmed and had to wait on the road for about an hour before a rescue bus arrived and took them to the team hotel.
The prompt action of the logistics team and security personnel as well as Ahmedabad Police personnel available en route from Motera to the team hotel ensured that there was no major danger following the short circuit in the bus. All the GT players quickly reached their destination from the horror of having already lost their second IPL final.
Talking more about the match, RCB managed to chase down the relatively low target set by GT with five wickets in hand and two overs to spare. Virat Kohli (75* off 42) was charismatic on the big night, hitting the winning six to seal the deal for the Rajat Patidar-led side.
GT faced some travel disruptions even before the finals. After defeating Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Stadium, their flight to Ahmedabad for the summit was delayed due to poor weather conditions in New Chandigarh. They reached Ahmedabad less than twenty-four hours before the final match, which could make the journey tiring.
“I don't want to ignore the fact that RCB won by just saying that we've played so many games in so few days and we're tired, and that's not really what our team is about,” Vikram Solanki, GT's director of cricket, said in the post-match press conference.
Nonetheless, RCB won its second consecutive IPL title. Patidar joins the list of legendary captains ms dhoni And Rohit Sharma Winning the IPL Championship for two consecutive years. RCB have arguably established their legacy of being one of the best teams in the history of the league, and now also have two IPL trophies to show for their dominance in the tournament over the years.
