Frontline leg spinner of Chennai Super Kings Rahul Chahar He is set to re-join Surrey County Cricket Club for eight matches in the upcoming County Championship season this summer. The deal was confirmed on Thursday, March 26, just days before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 edition.
Chahar made a memorable debut for Surrey in September last year, his only appearance for the team so far. The wrist spinner impressed by taking 10 wickets in the match, including a brilliant spell of 8/51 in the second innings. This spell marked the best first-class bowling figures by a Surrey debutant, surpassing William Mudie's long-standing record of 7/61, which had remained unbeaten for 166 years.
The 24-year-old will feature in the final eight matches of the season, starting with Surrey's clash against Hampshire County Cricket Club at The Oval on June 7.
Cricbuzz quoted him as saying, “I'm very excited to be back at Surrey this season. I really enjoyed my short spell in 2025 and I really enjoyed the opportunity to come back this season when I spoke to Alec Stewart. Surrey is a successful club and I look forward to helping the team achieve its goals in 2026.”
Surrey's director of men's cricket and former England fast bowler, Alec Stewartalso expressed happiness over Chahar's return.
“Rahul came last year and did a fantastic job at Hampshire and showed his qualities. We look forward to welcoming him back to the group and seeing how he can contribute to winning cricket matches for Surrey,” Stewart said.
Before heading to England, Chahar will be involved in the marquee Indian tournament, where he is part of the Chennai Super Kings squad till the end of May. He was bought by the five-time IPL winners for Rs 5.20 crore in the IPL 2026 auction and will play an important role after his departure. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin from Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the 2026 season.
