Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have filed a formal complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India following an alleged incident. Indian Premier League 2026, match on 5 April at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
According to a report in the Indian Express, CSK had expressed concern over the song 'Dosa, Idli, Sambhar, Chutney, Chutney' being played by the stadium DJ during the match. The song, composed by composer Gana Appu, has gone viral on social media and is often used in meme culture, sometimes reinforcing stereotypes associated with South Indian identity. The franchise reportedly found the timing and context of the song's usage inappropriate and offensive.
A senior IPL official confirmed that the league's Governing Council has received the complaint and is currently reviewing the matter. The incident has attracted attention due to the sensitivity surrounding regional representation and fan culture within the tournament.
The song had earlier courted controversy when wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma was seen singing it last year, drawing sharp reaction from CSK supporters. At the time, the Chennai-based franchise had stepped in to defuse the situation, and urged fans not to target opposition players over such matters.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan also confirmed that the franchise has formally raised the issue with the BCCI. He said the complaint was not limited to the song, but also included concerns over some comments allegedly made towards Chennai players during the match.
Vishwanathan further said that after the previous episode involving Jitesh, no such incident had taken place till the April 5 match. The franchise is now waiting for appropriate action from the authorities as the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
“DJs are usually there to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Some comments were made against our players. Keeping this in mind, we have written to the BCCI to look into it,” Kasi was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
He said, “After that incident, there has been no recurrence. DJs should not comment on opposition players. Also, we are fortunate that we have a loving fan base who supports us in large numbers.”
It was not just the song that CSK had objections to. The franchise also reportedly took issue with some of the comments made by the stadium DJ after the dismissal of its players. While involving the crowd is a regular part of a DJ's role during matches, CSK felt that targeting opposition players crossed a line and was inappropriate.
They lost the match against Chennai RCB. The five-time champions had a tough start to their IPL 2026 campaign as they suffered three consecutive defeats. However, they managed to recover with two consecutive wins on home soil. CSK is now set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Meanwhile, RCB has emerged as one of the top performing teams this season. They are currently on top of the points table after defeating Lucknow Super Giants on home ground. RCB have registered four wins from five matches so far, and their only defeat came against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
