CSK batsman Ayush Mhatre ruled out for season due to hamstring injury suffered against SRH


Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsmen Ayush Mhatre He has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) after suffering a hamstring injury during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 18.

According to the official statement from CSK, the right-handed batsman will be on the sidelines for anywhere between six to 12 weeks as part of his rehabilitation.

Mhatre performed well against SRH on Saturday, scoring 30 runs in just 13 balls and registering a strike rate of 230.77, but CSK failed to chase 195 before being dismissed by Nitish Kumar Reddy and fell 10 runs short of the target. During his innings, he was assessed twice by the physio, but was told to carry on despite the discomfort.

With eight matches left in the group stage, the five-time champions will be looking to find a replacement for Mhatre in the team. Chennai Super KingsHowever, they have players who can replace the 18-year-old in the playing eleven. They paid a huge amount to secure the services of Karthik Sharma in the mini auction, but the wicketkeeper-batsman has scored just 25 runs in three matches this season.

His other option is Urvil Patel of Gujarat. The 27-year-old played three times last season and scored 68 runs at a strike-rate of 212.50. Another option for the management is to move Sarfaraz Khan up the batting order and make him bat at number three.

Mhatre will be a huge loss for CSK, as they face an uphill battle to qualify for the playoffs this season. The top-order batsman has played six matches in the 2026 IPL, scoring 201 runs at a strike-rate of 177.87. His best innings came against Punjab Kings at Chepauk, where he scored 73 runs. He scored another half-century, this time against Delhi Capitals with a winning aim.

After their most recent defeat to SRH, CSK currently find themselves eighth in the standings, having earned only four points from their first six matches this season.
