The ICC has announced that both men's and women's T20 cricket will be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Each division will consist of six teams competing in a total of 28 matches.It marks the return of cricket to the Olympics after 128 years, its only previous appearance having been at Paris 1900. In that historic event, Great Britain won the gold medal by defeating France in a single match.“To accelerate the global growth of cricket, the ICC also said that the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will feature both men's and women's T20 competitions, consisting of six teams each, with a total of 28 matches.”“The Board reviewed the ICC's ongoing partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28), as cricket deepens its footprint in the global multisport landscape. The ICC said it “appreciated the efforts to include cricket in the regional multi-sport games, which will mean increased participation opportunities for countries.”Olympic cricket events will be allocated a quota of 90 athletes per gender. Each participating country can field a team of 15 players.The competitions will run from July 12 to 29, 2028. The women's medal matches will be played on July 20, while the men's medal matches are scheduled for July 29.All cricket matches will be held at the Fairgrounds in Pomona, located 50 km from Los Angeles city.Cricket will also feature in many of the upcoming multisport events to be held in the run up to LA 2028. These include cricket's debut at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, the 2027 African Games in Cairo, Egypt and the 2027 PanAm Games in Lima, Peru.The ICC Board has approved an increase of approximately 10% in funding distribution to associate members for 2026.“The increase in funding will enable these countries to further invest in domestic programmes, high-performance structures and cricket development in emerging regions,” it said.The ICC Board has approved the issuance of invitation to tender for video gaming rights. The initiative aims to partner with global leaders to create digital fan experiences.The governing body will explore new business opportunities through the data consolidation project.ICC concluded, “The project will focus on leveraging data clusters to drive AI-powered fan engagement and advanced analytics as well as deepen consumer understanding across the cricket ecosystem. This initiative will seek to support ICC members with new business opportunities.”
