Markram is the latest in a huge list of injured players. Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee, Nandre Burger, Lizaad Williams – all fast bowlers – were rejected before the tournament started.
Linde will join the South African camp on Tuesday evening, but will not officially convert Markram into the squad until he is excluded and the ICC incident technical committee does not confirm the swap. It is likely that South Africa added them to the group in the incident that they qualify for the Dubai final against India, where conditions dry up and require an additional spinner. He currently has two expert spinners in the squad: Keshav Maharaj and Tabariz Shamsi, but only Maharaj played in Pakistan. India played four spinners in their recent match against New Zealand in Dubai.
In 2025 SA20, Linde played an important role in winning his first title at Mi Cape Town. In 11 matches, Linde scored 161 runs at a strike rate of 153.33 and took 11 wickets in the 6.29 economy. Recently, while playing for western province in One-Day Challenge Division One, he scored 106 runs and took four wickets in five matches.
