Royal Challengers Bangalore Defeated Mumbai Indians in a thrilling match at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur in Match 54 of the Indian Premier League 2026.
Invited to bat on a wicket where there was a lot for the bowlers, Mumbai Indians were soon dealt a blow as Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Ryan Rickelton in the first over and then dismissed Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in consecutive balls in his next over. Naman Dheer and Tilak Verma saved Mumbai Indians who were trailing by three wickets in the powerplay.
The pair stitched a partnership of 82 runs in 57 balls as they rescued the MI innings in the middle overs. Dhir fell after scoring 47 off 32 as the defending champions pulled things back, slowing down MI's pace. Tilak completed his half-century, but fell victim to Bhuvneshwar Kumar on 57 runs, who took 4 wickets for 23 runs. Mumbai Indians scored 166/7 in 20 overs.
In reply, MI got an early chance as Virat Kohli was dismissed by Deepak Chahar for a golden duck. Devdutt Padikkal dismissed Chahar while Corbyn Bosch dismissed Rajat Patidar, leaving RCB behind in the powerplay. Krunal Pandya And Jacob Bethel stabilized the innings by scoring 55 runs in 42 balls.
Krunal, completing his half-century in 32 balls, attacked the MI bowlers and destroyed them. Bosch pulled things back together with two more wickets, finishing with figures of 4/26. Krunal was out after scoring 73 runs in 46 balls, with 18 runs still needed from the last two overs. Bumrah gave away only three runs in the final over, but the defending champions won on the last ball.
With this defeat, Mumbai Indians are out of the playoff race, while Royal Challengers Bangalore top the table with 14 points and an impressive net run rate of 1.10.
