Mumbai Indians (MI) chase great defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) successfully defeated the mammoth target of 229 runs by six wickets in Match 47 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Batting first, LSG posted a strong score of 228/5 thanks to explosive innings from Nicholas Pooran (63 runs off 21 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (44 runs off 25 balls). The pair powered LSG in the first half, while Aiden Markram (31*) and Himmat Singh (40*) ensured a strong finish. For MI, Corbin Bosch took two wickets, while Raghu Sharma got his first IPL wicket.
In response, MI gave its full strength. Ryan Rickelton played a sensational inning of 83 runs in just 32 balls with the help of eight sixes and six fours. He got good support from Rohit Sharma, who played a brilliant inning of 84 runs in 44 balls and kept MI firmly in control in the chase.
The duo stitched a match-defining opening partnership of 143 runs, putting LSG on the backfoot early on. Although MI lost a few wickets, including Tilak Verma and captain Suryakumar Yadav, in the middle overs, the required rate was within reach.
Naman Dhir (23*) and Will Jacques (10*) provided the finishing touches as MI completed one of the most impressive run chases of the season, chasing the target in just 18.4 overs.
For LSG, Manimaran Siddharth took two wickets, while Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan took one wicket each. However, their efforts were not enough as MI's batting firepower proved too strong on the night.
