Punjab Kings kept ipl 2026 Playoff hopes remain alive with an impressive seven-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in a crucial league encounter. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, PBKS produced excellent performances with both bat and ball to seal a crucial win, also ending Delhi Capitals' chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to bowl first. Lucknow Super Giants started aggressively but suffered early setbacks as their top-order batsmen failed to convert the starts. Josh Inglis played brilliantly under pressure and scored 72 runs off 44 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 163.64. He made an important partnership of 65 runs with captain Rishabh Pant for the fourth wicket, stabilizing the innings after the initial loss.
Ayush Badoni provided quick support by scoring 43 runs in just 18 balls, while Abdul Samad gave the final touch to the team by scoring 37 not out in 20 balls. Their late acceleration took LSG to a competitive total of 196/6 in 20 overs. For Punjab Kings, Marco Jansen impressed with figures of 2/33, while Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a disciplined spell and claimed 2/25.
Chasing 197, Punjab Kings suffered an early blow as Priyansh Arya was out on the very first ball and Cooper Connolly also failed to make an impact. However, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer turned the match around by making a brilliant partnership of 140 runs in just 76 balls for the third wicket.
Prabhasimran continued his excellent form and scored 69 runs in 39 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 176.92. Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a sensational unbeaten century, scoring 101* off just 51 balls. His innings included 11 fours and five sixes at an impressive strike rate of 198.04 as PBKS chased down the target with ease in 18 overs.
With this important win, Punjab Kings moved up to fourth position on the points table with 15 points and remain firmly in the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
