Kolkata Knight Riders finally made a mark in IPL 2026 with their first win of the season as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by four wickets at the Eden Gardens in the 28th match of the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Opting to bat on a dry surface on a hot Sunday afternoon, the Royals got off to a great start in the powerplay as the pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi added 63 runs in the first six. Although this was not a conventional attack, they used the area restrictions to their advantage. They slowed down midway through the innings as the Knight Riders' spinners tightened the noose.
Suryavanshi fell to Varun Chakravarthy for 46 runs in the ninth over and it was a free fall from there. Chakravarthy was at his best, fishing with figures of 3/14 from his four overs, while Sunil Narine supported him brilliantly and finished with figures of 2/26. Karthik Tyagi took three wickets in the death overs as Royals ended the innings at 155/9.
The Royals responded quickly as Jofra Archer bowled out Tim Seifert with the first ball of the innings, while Nandre Berger dismissed Ajinkya Rahane in the next over, reducing the Knight Riders to 5/2 in the second over. Cameron Green took on the RR bowlers and scored 27 off just 13 balls before he was acrobatically stumped by a wide ball down the leg side from Dhruv Jurel. Knight Riders ended their powerplay at 51/3.
Royals' spinners tightened the noose in the innings as Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Rovman Powell and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Ramandeep Singh was bowled by debutant leg spinner Yashraj Punja. Knight Riders' score in the 14th over was 85/6. Rinku Singh The pair, along with Anukul Roy, stitched a 76-run partnership off just 37 balls to help Knight Riders win with two balls to spare. Rinku remained unbeaten on 53 runs in 34 balls, while Anukul scored 29 runs in 16 balls.
