MI were asked to bat first and the start was as bad as it could have been for the visiting team. In the third over, the wickets of in-form batsmen Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dheer fell. Rohit Sharma also followed him and was out after scoring 15 runs in 13 balls. Suryakumar Yadav Also scored 15 runs from six, but what happened after that was no less than the horror story of a T20 match. Tilak Verma (20 off 32) and Hardik (26 off 27) adopted an ultra-defensive approach, scoring extremely slowly after the powerplay ended.

Ajinkya Rahane also performed well at the top by scoring 21 runs in 17 balls on a pitch that was slow after rain interruption in the first innings. Now, KKR will face Delhi Capitals in their last match, where they need nothing but a win to keep their chances of reaching the playoffs alive. Mumbai, on the other hand, have already been eliminated from the tournament and will face Rajasthan Royals in their final match of the season at the Wankhede Stadium on May 24.
