Delhi Capitals (DC) won against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by five wickets in Match 62. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, May 17 to keep themselves alive in the playoff race.
RR started with the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, but it did not last long as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi were out in the second over. Dhruv Jurel came in, but he was playing second fiddle as Suryavanshi took charge through the powerplay and scored 46 off 21 balls in a few overs, before Madhav Tiwary got the better of him.
Later, Jurel and Skipper Riyan Parag Made light work of the middle overs and put on a partnership of 72 runs for the third wicket, before Mitchell Starc stole the show by taking three wickets in the third over of his spell. Starc's magic completely changed the course of the game, as RR scored only 193-8 after 20 overs, at least 20-25 runs short of where they would have otherwise liked to finish, as Parag himself admitted.
Apart from Starc's four wickets and Madhav Tiwary's two wickets, Lungi Ngidi also stood out for the Capitals, taking two wickets in the death overs, but most importantly, he gave away just 24 runs for his four wickets. Captain Akshar Patel was also very economical in his four overs and gave only 29 runs in his bowling. Now it was up to the batsmen to take responsibility and do the job that was set for them.
Openers KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel did not waste any time and scored 72 runs in the powerplay itself. In just 10 overs, the duo added 105 runs on the board without any trouble, but Porel had to come back to the field after being dismissed. Donovan Ferreira Brijesh Sharma in deep off. Sahil Parakh could not do anything special and was dismissed by Jofra Archer in the thirteenth over.
A few overs later, Rahul also hit a boundary on the stumps off Dasun Shanaka, but Axar maintained his composure and kept the scoreboard running, keeping the run rate well within reach. At one stage, it looked quite tight towards the death, but Ferreira bowling the eighteenth over meant that Akshar and David Miller turned things in their favor by hitting a few sixes.
There was a slight problem in the last over when Miller gave a single to Shanaka at deep midwicket, but it did not make any difference. Ashutosh Sharma (18 out of 5*) Arrived at the crease to end things early with his sharp cameo to seal the deal. Ultimately Delhi won the match with five balls and the same number of wickets remaining.
