Ben Duckett returns to form in County Championship after turning down IPL deal

England's opener ben duckett On Monday, 11 May, Rothesay returned to form after scoring an unbeaten double century for Nottinghamshire against Surrey at Trent Bridge in the County Championship.

Duckett, who came to bat at number three, after scoring 42 runs in the first innings, scored unbeaten 203 runs in 311 balls in the second innings.

Duckett was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the mini auction for his base price of Rs 2 crore. However, the left-handed batsman pulled out of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the eleventh hour with a view to representing Nottinghamshire in the County Championship and regaining some form ahead of the domestic Test summer after a poor performance in the Ashes in Australia.

The 31-year-old proved that he took the right decision by staying in the country and playing domestic red-ball cricket instead of the IPL. England The international is currently the fourth-highest run-scorer in Division One of the County Championship, with 503 runs at an average of 83.83 while striking at 70.34.

Duckett explained how the decision he took earlier this year (referring to ignoring the IPL) was for the betterment of his international career and how much his game has improved since then.

“I've decided to stay here for my personal career, I love playing in this dressing room. It's a decision I made last month, everything is going in the right direction, and my game is good and hopefully I can take that confidence forward into this summer,” Ben Duckett was quoted as saying on Sky Sports.

Duckett took the difficult decision to reject the DC deal after the Ashes series, in which he scored 202 runs in five Test matches with no half-centuries to his name. As his replacement, the Capitals signed left-handed compatriot Rehan Ahmed. However, the spin-bowling all-rounder is yet to make his IPL debut this season.

England are expected to make some major changes to their Test team after the Ashes defeat in which they suffered a 4-1 defeat to their arch-rivals. However, Duckett's place in the team looks secure for now, with his starting partner Zak Crawley expected to be dropped after a poor run of results.
