Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi He has been fined 20% of his match fee and given one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct during the clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, April 26.
The sanction came after Raghuvanshi's aggressive response to the controversial obstructing-the-field out in the fifth over. Appeals by on-field officials Keyur Kelkar and Abhijit Bengeri were referred to the third umpire after a throw from mid-on hit Raghuvanshi as he dived back at the striker's end. TV umpire Rohan Pandit ruled that the batsman had changed direction significantly when returning to the crease and upheld the appeal.
Raghuvanshi then had a lengthy discussion with the umpires, who indicated that he needed room to turn and could not make a sharp 180-degree change of direction after his run was stopped. While returning to the pavilion, he showed obvious frustration, hitting the boundary cushion with his bat and throwing his helmet. KKR head coach Abhishek Nair was also seen having an animated conversation with the fourth umpire.
The IPL penalized Raghuvanshi under Article 2.2 of its code of conduct, which deals with misuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures during a match. The league noted that he aggressively hit the boundary cushion and later threw his helmet into the dugout in the same manner. Raghuvanshi admitted the offense and accepted the punishment imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.
Talking about the match, KKR won in a thrilling super over. They scored 155 runs in their 20 overs, thanks to a late knock from Rinku Singh, who remained unbeaten on 83. LSG struggled to chase their target, losing wickets at regular intervals, but late contributions from Ayush Badoni and Himmat Singh kept them in contention.
However, KKR dominated the Super Over. Sunil Narine dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram with just one run on the board. Ajinkya Rahane's team achieved a dramatic victory by achieving the target on the very first ball.
