In a heartfelt gesture, the Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel He dedicated his team's stunning seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur to two young fans who sadly passed away earlier this week.
The win marked Delhi's return to form after suffering three consecutive defeats in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. However, the result was overshadowed by a heartbreaking incident involving two ardent supporters of the franchise.
Cousins Yagya Bhatia (20) and Abhav Bhatia (14) lost their lives in a fatal road accident while returning home after Delhi's previous match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. According to an Indian Express report, the two were riding a bike when they were hit by a truck near Ashok Road in Delhi.
Speaking during the post-match presentation, Akshar expressed his condolences and paid tribute to the deceased fans in an emotional statement.
Akshar said, “After the tragedy that happened to our fans after the last match, I want to express my deepest condolences. I want to dedicate this win to them; they were part of our DC Toli family.”
The truck driver fled the scene after the collision, leaving the victims seriously injured on the road, reports said. He was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he was later declared dead.
Delhi Police tracked the vehicle to Shakarpur area in East Delhi on the same day. While the truck owner and a helper were detained, the driver remained free.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals also took to social media to condole the demise of the two fans, adding that their presence and unwavering support will always be remembered by the franchise.
