The 35-year-old Patterson took five-viccade halls in both the summer tests of South Africa's house, against Sri Lanka in Gakarbh and against Pakistan in Centurion. He has signed a contract, including the first seven championship fixtures of the Midlsex – which includes four games in Lord's, where South Africa will face Australia in the WTC final.
In four sessions with Nottinghamshire, Patterson took 180 championship wickets in 23.25, including seven wickets, but the club opted not to renew its contract. Instead he will join Middlesex, and will expect his attack after the departure of Ethan Bumbers for Warvickshire in winter.
“This is an honor for joining Midlsex,” said Patterson. “I will do my best to give Middlesex the best chance to return to Division One again, where there is a club. I can't wait to play at Lord's – such a reputed ground – and I really am excited about the challenge that is ahead.
“Obviously I am sad that after returning to Trent Bridge after a wonderful four years, I will always make a treasure that I have spent there. It quickly became home from home for me and I befriended in the dressing room, which I am sure that I will have a life.”
Australia's Cameron Green (Gloster'ser) and Bu Webster (Warvikshire) will also use the championship for the final, with many other potential participants involved in the IPL or PSL during April-May window.
Alan Coleman, director of the Middlesex of Cricket, said: “We are really happy to secure this signature because Dane is a player who will bring a large amount of quality for our speed attack and is that which can make a real impact for us in the first half of the season.
“He has proved in the four years spent with Nottinghamshire that he has all the qualities necessary to succeed in English conditions, and brings a treasure of experience with him, which has been built in many years in both domestic and international stages.”
