The Indian Premier League (IPL) has long been dominated by two franchises, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Both have won the title A record for each five times and have been the most consistent teams. In particular, he has also faced each other four times in the final of the IPL, in which Mumbai has won three of them. However, he has not achieved the beginning that he wishes in the ongoing IPL 2025, which doubts about their possibilities of making it in the playoffs.
Mumbai IndiansUnder the leadership of Rohit Sharma, he was re -established in 2013. Even when they lose early games in previous sessions, they discovered a way to bounce back and secure the playoffs. This trend has made his fans optimistic, regardless of his early struggles. On the other hand, CSK has been one of the most consistent teams, qualifying for playoffs in 12 of the 15 sessions played by them. His success is largely credited to mythological captain MS Dhoni, who directed the team for five titles. Even when he did not win, he was a strong contender, who took it to a record 10 finals.
CSK and MI shut down the horns in their 2025 season opener, where former ended a win in a close match. However, both teams have faced difficulties. Chennai won one match and the other lost, while Mumbai so far to win, leading to two back-to-back defeat. Among the season between the two, Chennai won against MI, thanks to their bowlers who effectively exploited the position of the house. In their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, CSK fell under pressure, RCB won its first win in Chennai since 2008.

On the other hand, after the loss of Mi, CSK, another shock against Gujarat Titans (GT) faced. Captain Hardik Pandya's decisions about XI's play did not work in his favor, and both his batting and bowling department looked bad.
Both teams have fought with strategic errors, which have contributed to their early failures. Pandya's return to MI as Captain has been away from ideals, as the team is not able to execute its plans well. In addition, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah has also obstructed his bowling. Meanwhile, the captaincy change in Ruturaj Gikwar from MS Dhoni has not been smooth.
While both teams have a history of making a strong comeback, the 2025 season has not been ideal. Both franchises have made errors with issues of selection and execution of MI, and inconsistent performance of CSK under a new captain. If these teams do not fix their mistakes soon, they may be a serious risk of disappearing in the playoffs. With the format of 10-Team, the competition is difficult, leaving very little space for a slow start. If Mi and CSK do not change things immediately, their chances of achieving playoff berths will be significantly reduced.
