The ongoing conflict in West Asia has caused significant disruption to daily life. The US-Israeli aggression on Iran has led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, cutting into India's LPG imports from countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. As the country faces shortage of LPG resources, India is all set to launch its IPLWhich is a major event of the country.
As the ongoing geopolitical tension in India continues to impact life, an IPL official has said that they are closely monitoring the developments in the region, but claimed that the situation is under control.
“We can't preempt the situation. We have to wait and see. Everyone we have spoken to says things are under control. Hotels are also saying the same, so we have to go by that for now,” an India Today report quoted the official as saying.
Travel plans were also jeopardized due to the closure of airspace in the area. Zimbabwe players had to travel home via Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, while South Africa and West Indies players were stranded in India for a week, before the ICC arranged for a special chartered flight for them to Johannesburg, from where the West Indies players would travel onward. There is still no clarity on whether the conflict will cause availability issues for players who use the Middle East as a stopover destination.
The official has said that there is no need to plan anything immediately and just see how the situation unfolds.
“For now, everything is fine. We will keep an eye on the situation. Why should we think ahead and decide anything now?” He said.
The officer also said that if the situation arises, a contingency plan will be made.
“We will definitely act as per the situation. If the situation demands that we do something, we will take necessary steps,” the official said.
The IPL is scheduled to begin on March 28, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
