Virat Kohli The Wankhede Stadium was treated to a special night when Royal Challengers Bangalore were hosted by Mumbai Indians for Match 20 of IPL 2026 at the iconic venue. Thanks to Kohli's 50 runs in 37 balls, RCB managed to post a challenging score of 240-5 on the board in the first innings. However, when it came to defending the target, RCB came into the field with great confidence, but Kohli was not seen in the field.
Later in the match, camera views confirmed that Kohli had indeed not come to field and Jacob Bethel took the field in his place. However, Kohli did not sit out after being dropped as an impact substitute. In fact, the real reason for the star cricketer not coming out to show off his acrobatics on the field was a possible ankle injury. However, the injury does not look serious and Kohli is expected to be back for the upcoming match.
Talking more about Kohli's innings, the charismatic batsman looked extremely comfortable at the crease for the duration of his stay at the crease. After reaching the 50-run mark, it took just one ball for Virat to be out as he edged a run out to long-on off Hardik Pandya as RCB lost a crucial wicket as the star batsman looked to turn his innings into a big one for the defending champions.
However, the finishing touch added by Tim David and Jitesh Sharma was enough for RCB to post a better score on the Wankhede surface.
In reply, Mumbai started well but lost some wickets in quick succession and lost momentum. To add insult to injury, Rohit Sharma, who was well set at the crease, had to leave midway through the innings, retiring hurt due to a left hamstring strain. Ultimately RCB won this match easily.
