Green entered the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore and a bidding war immediately ensued. Despite missing the 2025 season due to back surgery, his former franchise Mumbai Indians launched the bidding. Rajasthan Royals soon joined in and within minutes the price crossed Rs 8 crore, turning the contest into a battle of three teams including KKR.

As the numbers mounted, the Royals stretched their purse to the limit and pushed the bid beyond Rs 13 crore, which was more than 80 per cent of their available budget, before pulling out. Kolkata Knight Riders, who had the biggest purse in the auction, battled it out with Chennai Super Kings, making it one of the fiercest bidding wars in the history of the IPL auction.

What followed was a rapid exchange of bids, with paddles rising almost immediately as the price crossed Rs 20 crore.

There was a long tussle between KKR and CSK during the auction, but neither franchise was ready to let go of the Australian team. The price eventually reached Rs 25.20 crore when CSK decided to back out, allowing KKR to secure Green after a tough sequence of bids.

In 29 IPL matches, Green has scored at an average of over 41 with a strike rate of over 150. His previous stints with Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore as well as his return to full fitness make him a valuable asset.
