Tom Moffat, the CEO of the World Cricters Association (WCA), has exploded the BPL to be “a repeated offender” by not paying players on time. The reaction comes one day after Durbar Rajshahi’s abroad players boycotted the BPL game Sunday due to the non -payment of the dues.
Even Rajshahi’s captain, Taskin Ahmed, had joked after the game he hoped that checks issued to Bangladesh players, hours before the game, would not bounce as the pitch. BCB media president Iftekhar Rahman said that the Council plans to take legal action against the Rajshahi franchise.
On Monday, Ryan Burl and Ancab Alam, two of Rajshahi’s abroad players, appeared for the last team’s league game against Sylhet Strikers. However, it is unclear whether the owner of the Shafique Rahman franchise has completely paid them.
Moffat expressed his shock to the matter and called the unacceptable lack of payment.
“It is disappointing to hear more non -payment problems at the Bangladesh Premier League, which has been a repeated offender for several years,” Moffat told Espncricinfo. “These problems are unacceptable, they do not improve, and it is the players who make the event an impact. In any officially sanctioned league, players should be confident that their contracts have some basic protections and minimum standards, And they can be fulfilled efficiently.
“Currently the game is not able to solve transnational problems like this, and this must change if it wants to continue to claim to be a leading global sport by 2025.”
The first two editions of the BPL, in 2012 and 2013, were affected by non -payment problems, and many players were paid by the franchises. The BCB even stopped the tournament for a season after there was corruption scandals.
The payment number occurred this year after Rajshahi’s local players boycotted a training session last week, after being paid completely during the first two weeks of the tournament. Rajshahi also initially did not pay his hotel in chatogram, and his owner Rahman got into trouble with the hotel authorities. They also had reservation problems in Dhaka where they had to change suddenly hotels.
