In an interesting turn of events, Tilak Verma decided to retire over the match, as MI was in search of a target of 204 runs. Mumbai needed 24 runs to win the last seven balls when Tilak walked out of the field as Mitchell fled to the center. New Zealand all-rounder scored some runs with the last ball of the 19th over, with 22 runs to get the last six balls with five wickets in the bank.

After the defeat, Mi Skipper Hardik decided. He said that the batsmen have a few days where nothing happens in their favor. The Baroda all -rounder also said that the team needed some hits and that is why he thought of braving in a new batsman in place of Tilak.
