Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif Gujarat Titans (GT) are concerned about the lack of death bowling options for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Last time GT had one of the best bowling lineups. Prasidh Krishna won the Purple Cap with 25 wickets, while spinner Sai Kishore took 19 wickets.
Despite having two in-form bowlers in Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan, Kaif is worried that the 2022 champions do not have an accurate death bowler who can come in and bowl tight and stop the flow of runs. However, the former India player admitted that GT's bowling unit is otherwise good.
“Siraj is a new-ball bowler. Prasidh Krishna bowls in the middle. His strength is hit-the-deck bowling. The Ahmedabad ground is big. The square boundaries are big. He bowls tough lengths in the middle. So, I can understand what his role is,” Kaif was quoted as saying on Star Sports.
He said, “Prasidh Krishna has also shown improvement in his slower balls. The ball dips and he takes wickets, but he doesn't have death bowling. Kagiso Rabada is getting hit. Siraj also got hit. I am talking about the last three or four matches of last year. Prasidh Krishna got hit.”
GT They have some quality bowlers who are capable of challenging the established stars in the team. Experienced fast bowler Ishant Sharma is still in the squad while England's left-arm fast bowler Luke Wood could offer something different with the new ball if Rabada is required to replace him.
GT's bowling, for all its positives, did not earn him a place in the eliminator last season as Mumbai Indians scored 228 runs in 20 overs, with Siraj and Krishna both scoring 90 runs in their eight overs.
The Shubman Gill-led side will begin their 2026 IPL campaign with a match against Punjab Kings on Tuesday, March 31.
