New Zealand's star pacer jacob duffy Has revealed about the team's ambitions after the West Indies series. The Kiwis moved up to the No. 2 spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 after their 2-0 win over West Indies in the three-match Test series at home, making a strong start to the fourth WTC cycle.
Having played only one major series this year, New Zealand face a 2026 calendar that includes challenging tours of England and Australia as well as a high-profile home series against India. Duffy said he expected to play an important role as the team looks to keep the momentum going and achieve something special in the upcoming season.
“It's amazing, Test cricket is [against] Even on home soil, India, it's a huge series. It's exciting for the group and obviously I've had two and a half tours of England so far where I haven't played, so to go there and potentially do that and also away from the Australian team – I think those are the pinnacle. These are probably the highlights of your career, especially with the red ball,” Duffy told the ICC.
Duffy broke Richard Hadlee's long-standing record for the most Test wickets by a New Zealand bowler in a calendar year, and finished as the leading international wicket-taker with 81 wickets. He was also named Player of the Series against West Indies. Acknowledging the heavy workload, Duffy admitted that it was difficult, but said it made him feel valued and important within the team, especially in the absence of Matt Henry.
“I'm just enjoying my career, I don't know. I guess I don't look at things very holistically. It's been an amazing journey; it's been tough for all the bowlers and obviously, the workload is quite high, but the fact is that Tommy [Tom Latham] Keep asking me to throw the ball, I would like to see it as a privilege. You just have to trust yourself to keep bowling and do a good job, so that's what I'm trying to do,” Duffy said.
The Kiwis are set to tour India, where they will play three ODIs and five T20 matches before the T20 World Cup. After this Duffy will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2026. New Zealand's red-ball calendar begins with a three-Test tour of England in June, followed by a two-Test home series against India in October and November, before concluding with a challenging three-Test tour of Australia.
