Sunil Gavaskar has opened India's domestic structure and necessary changes in IPL. The former Indian cricketer feels that some franchises take a lot of risk on some players, despite that they do not have the experience of playing domestic cricket. He said that some players become lucky because even after having negligible experiences, they get a contract of crores of rupees.
He further addressed the increase in match fees of the players in the Ranji Trophy and realized that a slab system would better serve the players' interests. Gavaskar further said that players' interest in domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy as a muscle will increase.
,The argument that it is the strength of the market, not really valid, not more often, it is a sheer good fortune, because some franchisees want to take a pant with young talent. Take a look at unaccounted crorpatis throughout the IPL, and you will find that very few people have gone to do big things for India. This is his good luck that has made him crores of which he is really not worth it, “Gavaskar wrote in a column for Sportstar.
,BCCI has increased the match fees in recent times, and it is very good, but if they add a slab system of fees, which make more matches more matches, more than that, more players get injured before the IPL instead of starting a month for the Ranji Trophy so that they do not get injured and do not miss the IPL.
Money is not an issue for BCCI and its concerned units: Sunil Gavaskar
The former Indian cricketer also created a point for teams who play knockouts and wishes to see the increase in match fees of big matches. He feels that money is not an issue for BCCI, and these suggestions can be easily implemented.
,If the BCCI can also increase the match fees for the teams reaching the knockout, it will also be a great incentive for the players to play further instead of withdrawing from the fear of injury before the IPL. Gawaksar said that Money is not an issue for BCCI and its affiliated units, so expected these suggestions will be considered before the new domestic season starts.
