'They are not careless, they just have a lot of shots'

Head coach Daniel Vettori shared a detailed evaluation of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batting performance, especially in the 18th edition from his dynamic opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head Indian premiere league (IPL).

In IPL 2025, the head has blew hot and cold, while Abishek did not score a lot of runs under his belt before the record-shaking century in the last game against Punjab Kings. Both players have been described as a careless batsman by some people as they have played some rash shots to get out so far. However, Vetori said that because they are ultra-committed batsmen, people feel that they are careless whenever they are dismissed.

“When we have been successful in Powerplay, Abhi and Travis have just been able to play their shots and deal with merit with any ball. Because there is a reputation of aggressive sports and all-out attacks, when dismissal comes, people say that it can be a little careless, but not that I see it,”

Abhishek and Head in their final game added 171 runs for the first wicket in SRH's record-breaking run-chase against Punjab Kings. While the Australian batsman made 37-ball 66, his early companions scored 141 runs in just 55 delivery as SRH chased a target of 246 runs with eight wickets and nine balls. Earlier, the Champions helped end the streak of losing their four matches.

Vetori said that both left -handed batsmen worked hard behind the scenes and did their best to assess the conditions and opposition bowlers. The former New Zealand captain said that the bowlers sometimes need to give credit.

“The bowlers are allowed to bowl well, and you can't succeed all the time. But I know how much AB and Travis thought in their batting and how many situations they assess, how much they assess the bowlers. And they know when the ball is there, they want to hit it clearly.
