Faf du Plessis believes that Rishabh Pant will be under immense pressure as he will have to justify his price tag of Rs 27 crore, which he earned from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
Last season, Pant had a forgettable campaign with the bat. He scored only 269 runs in 14 matches at an average of 24.45. He definitely scored a brilliant century in the last game, but his overall figures still look disappointing. LSG also struggled during the season and ultimately finished 7th with only six wins from 14 matches.
According to Du Plessis, the star Indian wicketkeeper and LSG captain is going to feel the pressure of expectations after last year's defeat.
Du Plessis told Star Sports, “For me, he is probably the player in the IPL who is under the most pressure this season. We always talk about price-tag pressure. Some guys thrive under that price-tag pressure, and some guys don't. Last season was a really tough season for him. The way he batted, the team struggled and his runs also struggled. So when he comes into this season, there is that pressure and the team. There is pressure on what one is going to do.”
Take Rishabh Pant at No. 3 and play Nicholas Pooran at No. 4: Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina was also a part of this discussion. The former India batsman suggested that Pant and Nicholas Pooran could switch positions. Puran had done brilliantly last time while batting at No. 3, while Pant had to struggle at the No. 4 position.
“If four batsmen are out, there is kind of a stir in the lower order. Abdul Samad has come from winning the Ranji Trophy, but when you are chasing 210 or 220, I think he has to make a bit of a change there. Take Rishabh Pant at No. 3 and play Nicholas Pooran at No. 4. Abdul Samad is at No. 5, and you have to fit Ayush Badoni in the middle. You have Shahbaz Ahmed in the form of He is a left-arm spinner who also bats very well,” Raina said.
