Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) produced a brilliant all-round performance to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 65 runs in match number 6. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Thursday, April 2 at Eden Gardens.
Electing to bat first, SRH scored a mammoth 226/8 in their 20 overs and set the tone early on with an explosive opening partnership. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma performed brilliantly and added 82 runs in just 34 balls. Head scored 46 runs in 21 balls, while Abhishek missed the half-century, scoring 48 runs in 21 balls with the help of fours and sixes.
However, SRH lost a bit of momentum in the middle overs as captain Ishan Kishan was out for 14 and Aniket Verma could only score one run. The innings was then stabilized by Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made an important partnership of 82 runs for the fifth wicket.
Klaasen led the innings by playing an excellent inning of 52 runs in 35 balls, while Reddy played an important inning of 39 runs taking the total score beyond 220. For KKR, Blessing Muzarabani impressed with the ball, taking 4/41, while Vaibhav Arora took two wickets.
Chasing the challenging target of 227, KKR got off to a great start thanks to Finn Allen, who scored 28 runs off just seven balls. Despite the early momentum, wickets continued to fall regularly, preventing any meaningful partnerships from developing. Angkrish Raghuvanshi fought hard and played a quick inning of 52 runs in 29 balls, while Rinku Singh contributed 35 runs.
The rest of the batting lineup struggled to make an impact and KKR were eventually bowled out for 161 runs. SRH's bowling unit put up a disciplined effort, with Jaydev Unadkat leading the way with figures of 3/21. Ishan Malinga and Reddy provided good support by taking two wickets each and secured a comprehensive victory.
With this win, SRH moved up to sixth on the points table with one win from two matches, while KKR slipped to ninth, still looking for their first win of the season.
