Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by three wickets in match no. 4 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Tuesday, March 31 at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.
Gujarat Titans were restricted to a modest score of 162/6 in 20 overs, with skipper Shubman Gill scoring 39 runs and Jos Buttler scoring 38 runs. For PBKS, Vijaykumar Vaish took 3/34, while leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took 2/28 from his four overs.
During the chase, PBKS got off to a strong start as Prabhsimran Singh and Cooper Connolly put on a 76-run partnership in 49 balls for the second wicket. After Prabhsimran's dismissal, wickets kept falling at regular intervals as GT tried to regain control. However, Connolly remained patient and scored an unbeaten 72 off 44 balls at a strike rate of 163.64, including five fours and five sixes, to lead PBKS to victory, the first such performance to win a match. For GT, right-arm fast bowler Prasidh Krishna bowled well and took 3 wickets for 29 runs, but could not stop his team from losing the match.
After losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), IPL 2025 runners-up PBKS have made a strong comeback in IPL 2026 and started their campaign with a thrilling win in front of their home crowd in Mullanpur. On the other hand, GT, which finished fourth last season, is still looking for its first win in this edition. PBKS will next face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday, April 3, while GT will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Saturday, April 4.
