Mumbai Indians (MI) produced a sensational run chase to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a high-scoring thriller at the Wankhede Stadium. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on 29 March. For MI, Shardul Thakur was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/39, while Hardik Pandya took one wicket.
In reply, MI's chase got off to a dream start as Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma dominated the KKR bowling attack. The two made a brilliant opening partnership of 148 runs in just 71 balls and laid a solid base to chase the target. Rickelton scored 81 runs in 43 balls with the help of four fours and eight sixes, while Rohit was equally destructive, scoring 78 runs in 38 balls with the help of six fours and six sixes at a strike rate of over 200.
After the departure of the openers, MI captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma ensured there was no trouble late. The pair peacefully completed the chase with six wickets remaining and led the team to victory. For KKR, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi and Sunil Narine took one wicket each, but failed to stop MI's batting attack.
The win was a significant moment for Mumbai Indians, as they recorded their first win of the season and broke their long-standing unbeaten streak.
