defending champion Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) returned to winning ways with a win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 12.
After being asked to bowl first on a wicket with excellent batting, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Phil Salt put in a strong performance. The pair put 120 runs on the board in less than 11 overs. Salt returned to form and scored 78 runs in just 36 balls, top-scoring for the defending champions. Their hitting was led by captain Rajat Patidar, who scored 53 runs at a strike-rate of 265.
In response, MI Never really in the game and kept falling behind the required run-rate after each passing over, eventually falling 18 runs short. Sherfane Rutherford was the star of the show with the bat, scoring 71 not out from 31 balls, an innings that included nine sixes. However, in the end the efforts were too little and too late for the five-time champion.
The win takes RCB to six points from the first four matches and last year's champions find themselves third on the table. MI, on the other hand, have now lost three consecutive games in the league and are placed eighth in the table, above only Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
