Shakib Al Hasan BCB bowling action saga awaits Chennai results ahead of CT 2025 decider

Shakib Al Hasan is awaiting the outcome of a second Test of his bowling action from Chennai in India after failing his previous assessment from UK’s Loughborough University which had left him. suspended from bowling in first-class domestic and international cricket.

Shakib was reported for a suspicious action during an English county match in September This prompted action by the ECB and, under clause 11.3 of the ICC Rules for Illegal Bowling Actions, his suspension was automatically recognized and enforced by the ICC in international cricket and by all national cricket federations in their respective domestic competitions.

Shakib expects a result from the Chennai center in a day or two, which also prevents the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) from naming their Champions Trophy squad. Shakib is under consideration after the chairman of the board Farooq Ahmed he said on January 3 that he wants Shakib back in the team. It was also recently reported that Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto took a dig at the BCB on Shakib’s return for ODIs.

Shakib had been out of international cricket since playing the two Tests in India last year. He was unable to travel to Bangladesh due to student protests. Shakib was a member of parliament of the Awami League government, which relinquished power in the face of the student-led revolution in Bangladesh on August 5.

After the two Tests in India, however, Shakib was flagged for action in England. The suspension came in December. He was already playing franchise cricket in the UAE and Sri Lanka as the BCB was also weighing up his selection options, to stay in line with Bangladesh’s caretaker government.

BCB chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain said on Wednesday that he has learned that Shakib has undergone a second test of bowling action in Chennai, but could not confirm the details.

“It was very shocking to hear that Shakib could not pass the bowling action test [at Loughborough]” said Gazi. “I’ll have to find out if it’s been tested again. We have to wait for this information. The board has not fully informed us about Shakib. I think every minute counts. I’m sure we can clear it up in a day or two.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Salahuddin said he has given Shakib some advice over a video call in recent weeks to help him correct his bowling action problem.

“He already passed the test,” Salahuddin said Jamuna TV on tuesday “I know Shakib’s bowling AZ. I couldn’t go and train him (in India). I think he knows what to do. We discussed some things about the arm. We don’t need a big change in their bowling action can also do it quickly, but when a complaint comes in, a person usually has to think about it.

Salahuddin said Shakib failed to play with the right action in an effort to get more spin on the ball during the county game at Taunton in September. Shakib was trying to get some red-ball cricket ahead of Bangladesh’s tour of India.

“I think it was because of an extreme workload. Maybe he tried to spin the ball more, so he needed to use his upper body,” said Salahuddin. “It must have been one or two balls that were in doubt. When you can’t get power from your legs, you have to drive from your arms. It’s natural. I think he can fix it.”
