Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered their first win of the Indian Premier League 2026 with a hard-fought win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, April 5. Coming into the contest after a defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC), LSG made a strong comeback to open their account this season.
captain Rishabh Pant Led from the front by maintaining patience in the final moments and scoring the winning runs. In the stands, team owner Sanjiv Goenka was feeling relieved as his franchise secured its first win of the campaign. The win also helped ease recent speculations of tension within the camp after Goenka was seen having an animated discussion with Pant after the loss to DC. The franchise had previously dismissed such concerns, and this result further strengthened the feeling of unity.
Batting first in the match, SRH scored 156/9 in their 20 overs after a poor start which saw their top order collapse cheaply. However, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy made a strong comeback and added 116 runs in just 63 balls for the fifth wicket. Klaasen scored 62 runs in 41 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes, while Reddy contributed 56 runs in 33 balls with the help of three fours and five sixes.
For LSG, Mohammed Shami impressed with excellent figures of 2/9, while Prince Yadav claimed 2/34 and Avesh Khan claimed 2/36.
In reply, LSG achieved the target with one ball remaining. Aiden Markram played an important inning of 45 runs in 27 balls, while captain Rishabh Pant led the team to victory by playing an unbeaten inning of 68 runs with the help of nine fours in 50 balls.
From SRH's bowling unit, Harsh Dubey stood out with figures of 2/18, and two key run-outs kept the hosts in the contest till the end. Despite their efforts, LSG managed to regain their rhythm and earn their first win of the season.
