Rohit Sharma to undergo scan due to suspected hamstring injury

Rohit Sharma On Sunday, April 12, he had to leave the field while batting in Mumbai Indians' match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium. The former India captain suffered hamstring trouble. He was batting on 19 runs off 13 balls when Mumbai Indians were chasing a target of 241 runs.

According to Cricbuzz, Rohit will undergo scans to understand the severity of his hamstring injury. The experienced batsman's availability for Mumbai Indians' next match against Punjab Kings on Thursday (April 16) will depend on how the scan report looks.

Rohit called the physio to check himself before the start of the last over of the power play. After receiving some treatment, the five-time IPL winner-captain resumed batting. However, after conceding one run and defending one delivery in that over, Rohit decided to walk out, being replaced by Suryakumar Yadav in the middle.

Teammate Sherfane Rutherford said in the post-match media conference, “I'm not entirely sure yet – maybe it's a bit of a hamstring issue – but I can't say for sure. I was in the dugout, so I don't know much about it.”

Krunal says Virat is fine

Incidentally, Rohit's long-time friend and Indian teammate Virat Kohli was also struggling with his fitness heading into Sunday's blockbuster encounter. Batting first, he scored 50 runs in 38 balls. However, he was not on the field. Later it was found that he had injured his ankle. Krunal Pandya, however, said that the injury is not very serious.

“I mean, I haven't spoken to the physio yet, but I think he will be fine. If you look at the last two or three matches, he has been striking around 200. At the end of the day, it matters how we are playing as a unit. If we are able to score 230-240, we will take that any day. If you look at his stats, he is batting at a very good strike rate,” Pandya said after the match.
