Stokes is currently advancing his recovery in Abu Dhabi with England Lions Training Group and is expected to be fully fit to start summer with Durham. The UAE was also out, and no reason sees that the 33 -year -old man cannot do as he has done with the test side and re -activated a ODI team that has lost his way.
“I think that’s nothing really nothing from the table,” said. “You look at every option and you think, right, the best thing? How is it going to affect other things?
“Ben Stokes is one of the best captains I have ever seen. So it would be stupid that he is not to see it. It is just the effect of what it means.
“He is an incredibly good strategy that we have seen in Test cricket, but he is a leader of men. He is someone who becomes the best among the people. He is someone, when the pressure is actually, he is able to throw a blanket around the players and really says, ‘No, this is the way, this is the way.”
“They have qualities you need leadership. Ben, as we know, an excellent player, an excellent leader. Then what is more about it? Then what will be meant for his charge?
“We do not want to put other things at risk. But there is always a way in England, I think where you start looking, ‘What will happen if it goes wrong?” You also think, ‘What will happen if it goes right?’
There is no doubt that McCullum will open to have stokes on the board. He said last week that he would be open to a separate captain for each of the three international formats due to his opposite strategies. The key, however, observes a synergy between the test and the ODI that will allow Stokes to succeed with the latter.
“When you start seeing it, I believe that Test cricket and 50-over cricket are probably close to T20s, which is now outdoor. So then it makes different things.
“We look at India and the way they play T20 cricket, and they have come through all these young players, but these are their test players who are differentiating from 50 overs cricket.”
The issue, as Stokes has previously underlined itself, is a schedule. This year England faces India and Australia in the Legacy-Defining Test series, as far as Stokes captaincy and Bazball project is concerned. Should ODI jobs be assumed, the three-match chain against the West Indies (May in June), South Africa, Ireland (both in September) and New Zealand (ahead of ash) will be given a shoe-sheet in their journey program.
Brooke will have a similar issue, although he will already have to struggle as a multiple batsman. The key has no reservation about Brooke, which believes the role of a leadership how he captained Australia in the end of the previous summer in Butler’s absence. And with Stokes to guide him, at the same time the captaincy of his limited overs has been halved – there is no reason that the Yorkshire batsman cannot step at the second level.
“I think Harry Brook would actually be an excellent captain. I was alert about Ben Stokes and being too much, and see how it went away.
“I think he (Stokes) can bring out the best in Harry Brook. Being able to go out and sometimes feel like additional responsibility, for people, the best thing that can happen for him. Sometimes it is not. It is not. The decisions that you have to work.”
