Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan The Indian Premier League (IPL) stressed the importance of strong leadership in the creation of a winning team, depicting the performance of Punjab Kings (PBK) in 2025. The franchise ended as runners -up after losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final.
Dhawan highlighted the pair of PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, called him 'good combo'. He praised the impact of Ponting, given that the former Australian captain displayed his strength as a coach during the PBKS's impressive campaign in IPL 2025.
“Shreyas and Ricky Ponting are a wonderful combination and they are both forming a very good team this year. Ricky is a very positive person, very strong. His thought process and his skills stand out. A good player can win the match, but if you want to win the tournament, the entire team has a good team.
Left -handed batsman reflected on his time under the guidance of Ponting Delhi capitals (DC). He said that Ponting's approach uplifted the entire squad, saying that experienced cricketers were always clear about performance and areas that required improvement, qualities made them a figure that the entire team saw.
“When I was in Delhi's capitals, we worked together, and it was really a good term. He used to appreciate small things-You would have scored 15-20 runs, he would accept it. He also spent time with net bowlers and players on the bench, which really promotes his trust,” Dhawan said.
He said, “He was very clear on good performances and also on the areas that were lacking. His communication was very good, and his command on the boys was excellent. The players respected and saw him because he had strong control, but in a very positive way,” he said.
