Royal Challengers Bengaluru has proposed to install Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled cameras at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to improve fan safety and crowd management. In a formal communication to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the IPL franchises displayed a comprehensive monitoring plan to prevent crowd-related incidents and instill confidence in the venue ahead of future cricket events.
This proposal comes after the tragic stampede on June 4 rcbThe IPL 2025 title celebration, which resulted in the death of 11 fans and injuries to several others. Following the incident, the stadium was deemed unsafe for large gatherings by a government-appointed commission, leading to suspension of cricket at the venue. Chinnaswamy Stadium later lost matches scheduled for the 2025 Women's World Cup and 2026 T20 World Cup, while the police also refused permission to host Vijay Hazare Trophy matches. Despite RCB's home venue being shifted for IPL 2026, the franchise has proposed a technology-driven solution to address security concerns.
RCB has proposed to install 300 to 350 AI-enabled cameras across the stadium, designed to help KSCA and law enforcement agencies monitor the crowd. According to the franchise, the system will aid in efficient management of crowd movement, enforce disciplined queuing, track entries and exits and prevent unauthorized access. This technology is expected to reduce risk during high attendance matches and improve overall fan safety.
The franchise has promised to bear the entire one-time cost of around Rs 4.5 crore, showing its willingness to invest in long-term security infrastructure. The initiative is part of RCB Cares, a program launched in response to the June tragedy.
To implement the project, RCB has partnered with Gurugram-based Stack, a technology company known for its work in public safety and automation. Stackoo's solutions include advanced facial recognition technology and intelligent monitoring of crowds, objects, perimeters and vehicles. These systems have previously helped many state police forces in surveillance and investigation.
It is worth noting that the AI platform leverages real-time video analytics and data-driven intelligence, set to detect early signs of incidents such as violence, intrusion or unauthorized access. This will lead to quicker intervention and more effective law enforcement response.
