Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 The match is scheduled to begin on March 28 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which witnessed a tragic incident on June 4, 2025, when 11 people lost their lives during RCB's maiden IPL title celebration. As RCB prepares for the new season, both the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the franchise have implemented measures to honor the memory of the young victims.
KSCA will unveil a memorial plaque close to the mural, near the stadium's interior entrance, creating a permanent place of memory within the venue that saw both joy and tragedy. Additionally, 11 seats inside the stadium will be permanently reserved in memory of those who lost their lives.
These seats will not be sold for any matches, including international fixtures, and are expected to be placed together in a prominent stand, encircling the area as a mark of respect.
On the match day, RCB will pay tribute before the start of the game. The names of the victims will be displayed inside the stadium, followed by a minute's silence, with the visiting team also expected to join in the remembrance.
“It is painful to even think about the tragic incident. But we have been discussing the memorial with the managing committee and other key stakeholders for some time now and have collectively felt that it is important to honor the memory of the 11 people. We do not want to recreate any pain; instead, remember them. That is why we decided to have a memorial of those cricket fans whose lives were tragically cut short,” KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad told The Times of India. quoted as saying.
“It is a joint decision between KSCA and the franchises as they are an integral part of the Chinnaswamy Stadium,” Prasad said on the seats being marked.
The memorial plaque will serve as a point of remembrance similar to the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield Stadium, which honors the 97 Liverpool fans who died in the crush during the FA Cup semi-final at Sheffield's Hillsborough Stadium on April 15, 1989.
