“100%, I will play for Pakistan (again),” said 34-year-old Fakhar. Viper Voice Podcast“Actually, not many people know about this, but after the T20 World Cup I fell ill and due to a medical condition I was not fit, so I was not part of the team.
“but now I [have] I have recovered 100%, and you will see me in the next white-ball series that Pakistan plays.”
Fakhar, once an integral part of Pakistan’s white-ball team, has not played international cricket since the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies last June, where Pakistan were eliminated in the group stage. He last played an ODI in the 2023 ODI World Cup but is hopeful of a comeback for the Champions Trophy on home soil.
“It was on my mind, and I’m grateful, and I’m lucky that I’m fit right now. I started with the Champions Trophy 2017 and it went really well for me and now I’m very excited for the next edition as well.” I spoke to the selectors, the head coach and everyone wanted me to play in the Champions Trophy.”
Fakhar said, “I hope and I believe that he will recover soon and I was thinking of calling Sam tomorrow and talking to him about this injury.” “Believe me, he is such a great player that if he continues to play for the next four to five years, he will be at the top and he will be one of the top three players in the world.”
“In Pakistan, we have three of the best players in the world in Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Sam Ayub, so sometimes I feel lucky to be in the team, even if I have my share in the team as an opening batsman. Can’t make space.”

While Fakhar wants to open the batting for Pakistan, he may not get a place there as Ayub, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are already at the top of the order.
“In Pakistan, we have three of the best players in the world in Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Sam Ayub, so sometimes I feel lucky to be in the team, even if I have my share in the team as an opening batsman. “If the team has confidence in me and they want me to bat at number four or five, it is completely understandable because for me the team always comes first. And I play wherever the team wants me to play, but I always like to open.”
Fakhar is currently preparing for his first ILT20 stint where he will feature for 2023 runners-up Desert Vipers. “There are many Pakistani players including Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Azam Khan and Mohammad Amir who have played for the Desert Vipers and they really talk highly about this team, the environment, the management, the way they play cricket and ” That’s the mentality,” Fakhar said. “So when I got the offer, without discussing it with anyone I said, ‘Yes, I would love to play for this team.'”
The ILT20 will begin on January 11, with Dubai Capitals facing off against MI Emirates in Dubai.
