New Zealand 117 for 3 (Bates 47, Holiday 46*) Beat Sri Lanka 113 for 7 (35, 2–18 Illing) by seven wickets
The New Zealand bowlers set a tone with a frugal performance after winning and bowling, which was limited to 113 to 73 in their 20 overs before Bates and Holiday, which did not go out of 47 and 46 as the hosts hopped in the house with seven wickets and nine balls. Bates was named Player of the Match after bowling four overs for only 16 runs, while Holiday also took 1 for 12 with balls besides posting his highest T20I score.
To begin the early morning, Illing started taking one wicket at the inauguration and another in the seventh, as he bowled directly with a new ball, with 2 for 2 for 18 after being wicketlaces in a first series in the game on Friday.
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapathu was held as well as Eden Carson, Jess Carr and Betts were rolled at the other end, which was later rotated in her first over with a young woman for Ethhapaththu with bowling. The scoreboard pressure reported that when Kerr scored 29 runs for 23 runs, nineth of the innings stopped at 3 for 46 with Sri Lanka.
New Zealand's chase began poorly, with Georgia Plimer caught just 4 in the second place. Emma McLeod suits the seventh place for 13 to dull 11, but Bates chased the other. Safe in knowledge, he needed less than a run-e-ball, he hit only four borders and faced dot balls only once in his 46-ball innings and was caught and bowled in 15th and bowled with 29, yet needed to win.
Holiday ensured that he was easily knocked out to reduce several borders in the 16th and 18th overs as he did not make 46 balls from 40 balls, so that he would take his house home and move his previous T20I ahead with the best of 38.
The series will be set in the third T20I in Dunedin on Tuesday.
